WINTER TIME IN PELION

During the winter months, the appearance of Mount Pelion can be transformed within hours of snow fall. Trees, houses, and entire villages are covered with a blanket of pure white powered snow.

Pelion is beautiful place to visit and admire any time of the year, but during the winter months when the snow fall, it becomes even more beautiful. A winter scene in Pelion would not look out of place on a Christmas card.

Winter in Pelion is very cold, and the snow fall can reach several meters in height in some places, especially the more mountainous and higher places in the area. The village of Hania for example can find itself buried under 2 or more meters of snow during a very harsh winter.

During the cold winter months, you will see endless smoke coming from the chimneys of houses, as people have their fire lit all day long to wam up. There are many bars, cafes and tavernas where you can go to eat or drink, and in which you will see their fireplaces roaring with heat.

Winter time in Pelion is beautiful, and it is very enjoyable to take a walk around the area, providing you wrap yourselves up first.

There are photo opportunities nearly everywhere you look, and you can also find yourself a quiet spot to either build a snowman, or if with children, take part in a snowball fight.

The ski centre of Agriolefkes on Mount Pelion is of course the most popular winter activity in Pelion, and people come from both all over Greece, and the rest of world to enjoy the great ski facilities that are on offer. Snow fall usually starts in late November in Pelion and can last until March.

You will find that most coastal facilities during the winter months are closed. However, higher up Mount Pelion, you will find the numerous villages bustling with people, all coming here for the winter season. Christmas is also very popular in Pelion, and many of the hotels and places of accommodation can be fully booked for Christmas as early as October. If you are planning to spend Christmas in Pelion, be sure to reserve your accommodation as early as possible to avoid any disappointment.
